           Simple, a Hard Copy will generate more results than an email.

received daily by recruiters many are deleted, most just go automatically into a massive database.

thousands will be read.  Emailing your resume  may accomplish the goal of getting you into the employers resume databases.  Your end goal, however, is not merely to get into the database of the employer, but to get your resume read by them.  That goal alone would require a subsequent resume database keyword search by the employer using precisely matched terms to retrieve your file before the employer could notice you enough to warrant follow-up communication.
